COUNSELLING

If you are seeking counselling because you feel you simply need therapeutic support regarding a specific issue – and an opportunity to consider and practise more effective strategies for dealing with or resolving present difficulties, then the process of therapy is likely to be straightforward and therefore fairly brief.

Although 'counselling' is primarily issue-based, it will also help you explore where you are, how you are, and who you are, and help you recognise and process your feelings, thoughts, options and way ahead. The therapeutic process inherent in attending weekly counselling sessions encourages you to develop self-awareness, clarity, and an empowering sense of being in charge of your own life. Through counselling, you may help yourself change what isn't or doesn't feel right for you, and begin to uncover your own answers – those that are right for you.

TRANSPERSONAL-INTEGRATIVE COUNSELLING

My transpersonal-integrative counselling approach, embodying a synthesis of concepts and practices from various traditions, views each person as a whole being. Therapeutic engagement between counsellor and client working together is held at the centre of the therapeutic process.

Jaimie Cahlil

Within the general context of therapy, Jaimie Cahlil draws upon wide experience of working with people of all ages and backgrounds, facing various issues and engaged in all kinds of self-relational processes. Among these are included:

  • personal identity + personal truth/authenticity

  • relationship issues - partner/children/parents:  truth/trust/true intimacy, separation... (also, social/work-related issues)

  • issues of mood/emotion/mind imbalance (anxiety and/or depressive and/or dissociative states)

  • serious/chronic illness

  • the idea or prospect of death and dying – personal/another’s/emotional/existential

  • bereavement/grief

  • general sense of loss and/or loss of self/direction

  • low self-confidence, low self-esteem

  • sexual orientation issues

  • gender issues – gender dysphoria/reassignment...

  • emotional and body-held symptoms

  • childhood/adult (physical and/or sexual) abuse

  • disturbing memories/flash-backs/deep-rooted psychological unease/automatic reactions

  • dreams – unusual/troubling, inspiring/healing, predictive, transcendent...

  • existential crisis – loss of/search for ‘meaning’

Whatever issue and/or state of being a person brings to therapy, attention to the deeper relationship with their self at core is profoundly beneficial. Engaging in therapy may be viewed as an investment in the real quality of life, now and hereafter.
